This woman later pointed to a baby and indicated that the small child was fine to photograph. Her wrinkled face and dirty hands attest to the hard life people endure in Afghanistan. The average lifespan here in 1993 was 43, today it has risen to 48. Women maintain their adverse reaction to photography because of their culture. Progress is slow but it is taking place.
