Guardsman on foot patrol stops man on bicycle - by: Tim King
A Guardsman on foot patrol stops a man on a bicycle in Kabul Afghanistan. Soldiers in a combat zone will tell you that the last thing they want people to do is approach them too quickly. It reduces their time to think, compensate and react, and suicide bombers potentially use any range of vehicles, including bicycles. What appears to be a very tense moment is indeed just that, and the bike rider explained to the soldier that a "crazy" man a few streets down had just attacked him and had been pursuing him, that is why he approached the soldier so fast. It was another strange and unpredictable scenario "outside the wire" on patrol in Afghanistan.
