Camp Pheonix - Kabul, Afghanistan - by: Tim King
Sunset at Camp Pheonix in Kabul, Afghanistan. Camp Phoenix, a Joint Training Facility with several nations from the Coalition, is located at a base that had been occupied by Soviet forces during their war in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1989. Many buildings are new, but many are old and still utilized. This is not unique in Afghanistan as most of the current U.S. and Coalition bases are areas formerly occupied by the Soviets, and the Taliban in many cases. Picture by Tim King from his time as an embedded reporter in Afghanistan with the Oregon National Guard.
